Project overview
QuietStar worked with The Hop Sun Taproom to supply and install a bespoke high-spec acoustic steel double door, designed to support the venue’s expansion while managing noise breakout to neighbouring properties.
Initially considering a roller shutter solution, the client required higher acoustic performance than a shutter could provide. QuietStar proposed a hinged steel acoustic door solution, ensuring both sound attenuation and easy day-to-day operation.
The Brief
The Hop Sun Taproom wanted to expand their outdoor customer area but faced noise complaints from local residents. The new opening needed to be acoustically controlled, secure, and easy to operate for both daily use and larger events.
The solution had to balance aesthetics, performance, and compliance with building and escape regulations.
Our Approach
QuietStar consulted with the client and acoustic consultants to fully understand the project requirements, including reviewing the site’s acoustic report and proposed layout.
A leaf-and-a-half door design was chosen:
The active leaf provides everyday access, fitted with a panic bar for compliance with EN 1125.
The passive leaf can be opened to allow larger deliveries or event access.
Door was fabricated to external specification for durability and weather resistance.
Because of tight timelines before the holiday period, the team coordinated closely with the brickwork contractor, manufacturing the door before the wall and lintel were fully installed.
The Results
Rw 51 dB acoustic performance achieved
Seamless integration with new outdoor space
Installed and operational ahead of Christmas parties
Customer extremely happy with both performance and appearance
Provided a long-term solution for noise control while supporting venue growth
