New Acoustic Doors for Nice Sound

QuietStar have recently installed 2 acoustic doors for Max Brodie at his studio, Nice Sound based in Manchester City Centre. The space was undergoing a major refurbishment and creating a new post-production suite. Max works with a huge range of clients including Google, the BBC, CiTV, AMEX and McDonalds. Attention to detail was paramount for the project and a high degree of sound isolation required to ensure the best-possible compositions.

QuietStar were approached by Spatial Office Environments who were commissioned for the fit-out of the new space. The requirement for the doors was to have at least 50dB isolation between the post-production room and adjacent facilities.

Both doors had an acoustic performance of 52dB and manufactured from steel. One requirement was for one of the doors to have a 60 minute fire rating, without compromising the acoustic performance of the door. QuietStar manufacture both regular acoustic doors and acoustic fire doors in a range of performances that can be matched to other components such as acoustic windows.

One door was a solid steel leaf, the other had a fully DDA compliant vision panel. Both doors were painted RAL 9005 (grey) to complement the high-end architectural finish required by Max and his team.

From placing the order, to having the doors installed and commissioned was 8 weeks which was a great achievement for 2 bespoke acoustic doors. QuietStar had to work fast and negotiate other trades whilst on-site which is always a challenge.

Speaking after the project, Max commented, saying “Luke and his team were brilliant to deal with. The doors were delivered to site on time and perform better than I could of ever imagined.”

As a team, we were really proud of the comments, coming from an influential figure in the songwriting and music production industry.
