QuietStar were approached by Studio Creations to help solve a sound containment problem at a brand-new facility they were building on behalf of Ashford College. The project, which boasts a 40-channel recording studio, along with a sound booth, live suite and control room required isolation from one another.
Due to the acoustic performance levels required room to room, 50dB doorsets were specified to complement the newly constructed walls. Whilst the performance level could have been achieved using timber, steel acoustic doors were chosen primarily for their durability. Given the education setting, steel was the obvious choice given its durability.
Each of the doors for this project were manufactured using DDA compliant vision panels. All vision panels added to our doors have no effect on the acoustic performance and can be made considerably larger than those used for this project.
In addition to the acoustic performance, 1 of the 3 doors was required to have a 30 minute fire rating. This was another reason why QuietStar were chosen for the project as we are able to provide and install fire-rated acoustic doors to match the performance of our non-fire range.
Due to time constraints on the overall build project, the lead time for installation was very tight. From the order being placed to the 3 doors being installed was less than 8 weeks. Given that all of our acoustic doors are individually drawn and manufactured to order, the client was very impressed with the turnaround time.
Here at QuietStar, we always work closely with our clients to achieve the best possible results. Being an agile, customer-focussed company, this gives us greater flexibility to get smaller projects manufactured and installed quickly to meet tight deadlines.
